New birds (newly bought, returning from a show, or having been in contact with someone else's birds) must always be quarantined for a period before joining, to avoid bringing outside pathogens into an established flock. When several birds in the same flock fall ill or die of unknown cause within a short time, the logic should shift to "assume an infectious disease until ruled out", contacting a veterinarian or the local poultry health authority immediately rather than treating birds one by one. All-in-all-out is one of the basic principles of biosecurity: a single batch enters and leaves together, avoiding mixing birds of different ages or origins, which lets pathogens keep circulating on the premises.
