Is Pain in the First Few Days After an Implant Normal? The Research Actually Measures This in Hours｜證據鏈

An implant is a surgical procedure, and short-lived pain and swelling afterwards are described in the literature as an expected temporary response. A systematic review assessing how patients experienced bone grafting procedures carried out before implant placement included 6 studies with a total of 295 patients; the trend observed was temporary post-operative pain and swelling, accompanied by a small number of neurosensory disturbances, and overall patients felt positively about their post-operative recovery. One thing should be made clear first, however: most current high-quality research is not answering "how many days should it hurt", but "by what method, and at what time point, is pain best managed". The relevant meta-analysis set its observation points at 1, 3, 6, 8, 24 and 72 hours after surgery. So for the question "is pain in the first few days normal", the most appropriate source of an answer is not a number of days found online; it is the instructions your dentist has given you for the extent of your surgery, together with the actual changes you report.
