牙周非手术治疗的基础仍然是诊断、口腔清洁指导、龈上与龈下牙菌斑及牙结石控制、根面处理、风险调整与再评估。 部分试验将 Er,Cr:YSGG 放在这套流程旁边;研究问题应当是“作为辅助,是否增加了具有临床意义的改善”,而不是“能否使用设备取代标准清创”。 在一项包含15位成年人、90个深度至少 5 mm 部位的分口先导研究中,Er,Cr:YSGG 加标准治疗与单独使用标准治疗,在12个月时的平均改善相近;测试部位的探诊深度由 6.1 降至 4.2 mm,对照部位则由 6.2 降至 4.3 mm。 只有起始深度至少为 7 mm 的亚组,在9个月与12个月时牙周袋变浅的部位比例出现显著差异。
