种植体周围刷牙出血，表示该处需要接受检查，但仅凭出血无法区分种植体周围黏膜炎或种植体周围炎，也不能直接判定种植体失败。 较为完整的评估会将轻柔探诊后出血、探诊深度、是否溢脓或疼痛、修复体与种植体有无松动，以及影像中的骨高度变化放在一起看。 研究也提醒，病例定义与探诊深度界值不同，统计出的疾病比例会明显改变；因此，不宜脱离既往记录来解读某一个探诊数值或一次出血。 另一篇系统评价比较的是角化黏膜宽度“足够”（≥ 2 毫米）与“不足”（< 2 毫米）的部位：口腔清洁良好时，角化黏膜量对软组织炎症的影响有限；但在角化黏膜极少的区域，因牙菌斑控制不易进入而使清洁不理想时，组织损伤可能更多，该评价因此仍主张需要有适当量的角化牙龈。 清洁工具能否进入种植体牙冠周围、是否存在容易积聚牙菌斑的清洁死角，也值得同步检查（本站整理的检查框架，并非上列文献的结论）。
