Taiwan's TAIEX Closed at 44,232.87 on July 21, 2026, Up 1,783.17 Points (4.20%) vs the Prior Session — a Record Closing-Basis Point Gain (media compilation, not an official release)
On 2026-07-21 Taiwan's TAIEX weighted index closed at 44,232.87 points, up 1,783.17 points or 4.20% vs the prior session (2026-07-20 close: 42,449.70), on turnover of NT$835.624 billion (8,356.24億). CNA describes this as a record for the largest closing-basis point gain, and the same CNA report also states the session's intraday point gain ranked only second-largest on a single-day basis — the closing-basis record and the intraday-basis record are two different records, while cnyes calls it simply the largest point gain in history without distinguishing them; this card adopts CNA's finer wording and reproduces both. Every index, share-price, turnover, institutional-flow and FX figure in this card is as stated in media compilations by CNA, cnyes and Storm Media; this site has not independently verified them with the Taiwan Stock Exchange, the Taiwan Futures Exchange or the central bank. Zero verified official anchors; this is not an official endorsement (see §Caveats).
ANK-Doc ID: ANK-2026-07-21-004 Version: v1.0.0 Published: 2026-07-21 Author: 方實 (Fang Shih, Deputy Editor / 副編輯, auto AI structuring) Category: Taiwan securities market / single-session post-close report (media compilation, not a Taiwan Stock Exchange official release) Source articles: Trigger = STORM#1628297 (Storm Media post-close flash, 2026-07-21 14:21 Taipei time). Anchored on that trigger, `asql` (full ainews DB) and `wsql` (tqaeo ank_docs) were run during writing to add 25 further articles from distinct sources across four layers — same-session post-close, same-session intraday, the preceding chain, and company filings. Each is an independent report or filing, each carries its own timestamp, and no figures are merged across sources. The full per-article list with URLs appears in §Sources at the end of this card. Selection method: Selected as candidate #1 by the daily selector run ANKRUN-20260721193704 (scores: FD=112, CD=336.00, MC=3, claim_units=112, chainable_official=0, headline_fact_score=3). Transparency statement: the selected main article has an empty source_pack.chain and is a single-source trigger; the 25 additional items were added during the writing phase through a live full-database search and do not fake a multi-source selection. Official-anchor status: official_count_verified = 0 — this card has zero verified official anchors, and every F-Unit carries basis = news_aggregation. The post-close data published by Storm Media, CNA and cnyes are media-side compilations, not releases by the Taiwan Stock Exchange, the Taiwan Futures Exchange or the central bank, and this site has not independently verified them with any of those authorities (see §Caveats). Editorial angle (fact-pinning): this card pins the single-session point-gain record to three checkable things — (1) the record's precise basis is the *closing* point gain, not the *intraday* point gain; (2) on the day the record was set, turnover was lower than the prior session, foreign investors were net sellers for a 13th straight session, and the Taiwan dollar weakened, so price and volume, and equities and currency, moved in different directions; (3) the limit-up list clustered in aerospace/defence, ABF substrates, CPO and passive components — sectors that had fallen hardest — and can be traced to specific order books and company filings. No figure absent from the source text is generated; no difference, ratio or percentage change is computed; nothing is merged across sources. No Wikidata Q number is attached (this run performed no registry curl verification; nothing unverified is claimed).
TL;DR (one-sentence core fact)
On 2026-07-21 Taiwan's TAIEX weighted index closed at 44,232.87 points, up 1,783.17 points or 4.20% vs the prior session, on turnover of NT$835.624 billion (8,356.24億); the session opened at 42,566.93, with an intraday high of 44,232.87 and an intraday low of 42,566.93, and 886 issues rose, 150 fell and 62 were unchanged at the close (cna#1627904). [F-001] Two CNA stories that day worded the record differently — "set a record for the largest closing-basis point gain" (cna#1627908) and "rewrote the second-largest single-day intraday point gain and the largest closing-basis point gain on record" (cna#1628181) — while cnyes wrote "the largest point gain in history" (cnyes#1628230); this card adopts CNA's finer distinction between closing basis and intraday basis and reproduces the cnyes wording that does not distinguish them. [F-002] Among heavyweights, TSMC rose NT$90 to NT$2,410, MediaTek (聯發科) hit limit-up with a NT$330 gain to NT$3,670, Hon Hai rose NT$11.5 to NT$246, Delta Electronics rose NT$130 to NT$1,835 and UMC rose NT$4.5 to NT$134.5; the electronics sector index rose 4.81%, the financial sector index 0.85% and the over-the-counter (TPEx) index 3.64% (cna#1627908). [F-003] Three divergences marked the session: turnover of NT$835.624 billion (8,356.24億) set against the prior session's NT$983.863 billion (9,838.63億) on 2026-07-20 (cna#1613772), which CNA described as turnover having declined (cna#1628181); foreign investors net sellers for a 13th consecutive session (cna#1631368); and the Taiwan dollar closing at 32.345 per US dollar, down 9.7 cents, its weakest in about one year and three months (cna#1631368). [F-004] The limit-up list clustered in aerospace/defence (AIDC 漢翔 at NT$71.5), ABF substrates (Unimicron 欣興 at NT$825), CPO test interfaces (Chunghwa Precision 穎崴 at NT$6,655) and thermal solutions (Jentech 健策 at NT$3,520) (storm#1628297). [F-005] Preceding chain: on 2026-07-17 the TAIEX plunged 2,953.71 points — described by CNA as a record for the largest single-day point drop in history — to close at 42,671.27 (cna#1616563). [F-006] All figures in this card are as stated in media compilations and have not been independently verified with the authorities by this site (see §Caveats). [J-001]
Misreading pins (two)
Pin 1 — "biggest point gain ever" is a closing-basis record, not an intraday-basis record. CNA's 2026-07-21 story states explicitly that the session "rewrote the second-largest single-day intraday point gain and the largest closing-basis point gain on record" (cna#1628181): largest on a closing basis, only second-largest on an intraday basis. The cnyes story the same day wrote "the largest point gain in history" (cnyes#1628230) and the Storm Media trigger headline wrote "surged 1,783 points in a single day" (storm#1628297); neither distinguishes the two bases. Any citation of "the biggest ever" must specify the closing-basis point gain, or two separate records get conflated. None of the CNA or cnyes originals states the value or date of the largest intraday point gain on record; this card neither supplies nor computes it.
Pin 2 — 1,783.17 is a point count and not a percentage; the 2026-07-21 session was not a broad advance either. The 4.20% figure is the percentage move corresponding to that point gain; it cannot be netted directly against the 2,953.71-point drop of 2026-07-17 (cna#1616563), since the two are independent figures for two independent trading sessions. At the close 150 issues still fell and 62 were unchanged (cna#1627904); among the eight main sector groups the food sector fell 0.20% against the trend (cna#1627904); and Storm Media tabulated seven names at or near limit-down, including Lien-Yu Metal (聯友金屬-創) at NT$1,955, down NT$215 or 9.91% (storm#1628297). Other caveats: see §Caveats.
Fact-pinning (Fang Shih — which column of which document each figure belongs to)
One: the difference in the record's basis is the single thing this card most needs to nail down. Four stories gave four wordings for the same 1,783.17 points: CNA at 13:54 wrote "set a record for the largest closing-basis point gain" (cna#1627908); CNA at 14:35 wrote "rewrote the second-largest single-day intraday point gain and the largest closing-basis point gain on record" (cna#1628181); CNA at 17:59 wrote "set a record for the largest closing-basis point gain" (cna#1631368); cnyes at 14:13 wrote "gained 1,783.17 points, the largest point gain in history" (cnyes#1628230). All three CNA stories confine the record to the close, and one of them volunteers that the intraday point gain ranked only second. cnyes draws no such distinction. This is not word-play: the intraday high and the close were both 44,232.87 (cna#1627904), meaning the index finished at its high of the session, which is precisely why the closing point gain equals the realised value of the day's maximum intraday gain. Downstream reporting that cites this record should return to CNA's two-basis phrasing.
Two: price up, volume down, currency down — three figures pointing in different directions, read side by side. The index gained 1,783.17 points (cna#1627904), yet turnover was NT$835.624 billion (8,356.24億) (cna#1627904) against the prior session's NT$983.863 billion (9,838.63億) on 2026-07-20 (cna#1613772); CNA's 14:35 story used the verb "turnover declined to" (cna#1628181), while cnyes wrote "turnover shrank to NT$835.6 billion (8,356億)" (cnyes#1628230). The three institutional investor groups were net buyers of NT$16.407 billion (164.07億) combined, but the breakdown is proprietary dealers +NT$3.507 billion (35.07億), domestic investment trusts +NT$17.232 billion (172.32億), and foreign and mainland Chinese investors −NT$4.332 billion (43.32億) (cna#1628355) — among the three institutional groups, the net buyers were domestic investment trusts and proprietary dealers, while foreign and mainland Chinese investors remained net sellers. Note that neither the original nor this card computes the ratio between the three groups' combined net buying of NT$16.407 billion (164.07億) and the session's turnover of NT$835.624 billion (8,356.24億), so this must not be read as evidence that domestic investment trusts drove the session's advance; this card states only the direction of each group's net flow. CNA's 17:59 FX story adds that foreign investors "have now sold Taiwan stocks net for 13 consecutive sessions," that the Taiwan dollar opened at 32.22 per US dollar, touched a low of 32.442, and closed at 32.345 after central bank smoothing late in the session — down 9.7 cents and the weakest in about one year and three months — and that combined turnover on the Taipei and Cosmos foreign-exchange markets reached US$4.353 billion, the sixth-largest on record, with all of the top ten above US$4 billion and seven of them set in 2026 (cna#1631368). On the same day the index set a closing-basis point-gain record, the currency set a fifteen-month low.
Three: where the money actually landed — AIDC's NT$12.8 billion and 66 aircraft. In Storm Media's table of limit-up names, Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (漢翔, 2634) closed at NT$71.5, up NT$6.5 or 10.00%, and also entered the day's ten most-traded names with 92,633 lots (storm#1628297); cnyes at 10:49 noted that NT$71.5 matched its all-time high price (cnyes#1626902). CNA's 14:36 story connects the share price to what the company itself says about its order book: AIDC stated it had already booked NT$12.8 billion (128億) of new orders in the first half of 2026, with aero-engine demand the strongest component alongside military, civil and technology-service orders; its 2026 military target is to complete delivery of all 66 Brave Eagle advanced jet trainers under the programme, after which maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) work begins; and it unveiled the "AIxVNAV" drone visual navigation and positioning system at the end of May 2026. The same story notes that Taiwan's Legislative Yuan recently held a joint committee session reviewing the Executive Yuan's and the opposition parties' competing draft drone statutes, and that Bao-Yi, Sheng-Tian, Solteam, Air Asia Company, Corvalent and Lungteh Shipbuilding all hit limit-up alongside AIDC that session (cna#1628184). The "NT$12.8 billion of new orders" is the company's own statement, not a filing figure verified by this site, and "66 aircraft delivered" is a 2026 target rather than a completed count (see §Caveats).
Four: the other side of the rebound — the name that was placed under trading curbs. CNA reports that passive-component leader Yageo (國巨) rebounded 6.35% that session, and the same story describes its share price as having "halved from a high of NT$1,220 over the past three weeks" (cna#1628181); Storm Media's table shows Yageo closing at NT$670, up NT$40 or 6.35%, on 94,729 lots (storm#1628297). Its sector peer Walsin Technology (華新科) went the other way: Storm Media's 2026-07-20 story reports that the Taiwan Stock Exchange and the Taipei Exchange each published new disposition-stock lists that day, that Walsin Technology (2492) was designated a disposition stock again from 2026-07-21 through August 3 with matching every 20 minutes, and that the overlap of the old and new periods puts its overall disposition window at 2026-07-16 through August 3 (storm#1616790). Storm Media's 12:02 intraday table that session shows Walsin Technology at NT$251, down NT$26 or 9.39% (storm#1627658), and the cnyes post-close story records that it "still closed weak and lower" (cnyes#1628230). Two passive-component names moved in opposite directions on the same day — none of the originals ties the disposition measure to the price action as cause and effect, and this card only places the facts side by side without attributing (see J-003).
Five: a cross-check — the names knocked out of the top-20 market-cap table by the sell-off are the same names that hit limit-up this session. The cnyes story of 2026-07-21 at 12:49 compiles the top-20 market-capitalisation ranking of listed companies from Taiwan Stock Exchange data (the original states the statistics date as ROC 115/07/20, that is 2026-07-20): Nan Ya Plastics rose to 10th with a market value of NT$1,479.098 billion (14790.98億) — the same story's text also renders this as NT$1.47 trillion; Taishin Shinkong Financial entered the table for the first time at 20th with NT$874.054 billion (8740.54億); and Chroma ATE and Wiwynn dropped out of the top 20, as did AVC and Jentech (cnyes#1627586). That ranking's statistics date of 2026-07-20 precedes this card's subject session of 2026-07-21: Jentech is one of the names that closed limit-up at NT$3,520 on 2026-07-21, and Chroma ATE closed at NT$2,015, up NT$180 (storm#1628297). The two documents differ in statistics date and in basis (a market-capitalisation ranking versus single-session closing prices), so this card places them side by side without inferring whether the ranking moved because of the one-session rebound.
Intraday timeline (each point attributed to its own source with its filing time; Taipei time)
| Filing time | Index / key figures | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 09:04 | Opened up 117.23 points at 42,566.93; opening turnover NT$3.907 billion (39.07億) | cna#1626022 |
| 09:20 | Up 1,064 points in early trade to 43,514.11; story puts the quarterly moving average at 43,696; TSMC at NT$2,370 (up NT$50) | cna#1626225 |
| 10:14 | Index at 43,664.79, up 1,215.09 points or 2.86%; MediaTek at NT$3,540 (up NT$195) | storm#1626972 |
| 10:43 | Briefly up more than 1,200 points intraday, high 43,748.64; around 10:30 at 43,543, up 1,093 points, turnover about NT$439.4 billion (4,394億) | cna#1626888 |
| 12:02 | Around 12:00 at 43,944.53, up 3.52%; story records 55 listed and OTC names at limit-up and 9 at limit-down at that moment | storm#1627658 |
| 13:47 (post-close) | Closed 44,232.87, up 1,783.17 points or 4.20%, turnover NT$835.624 billion (8,356.24億) | cna#1627904 |
The open was up only 117.23 points (cna#1626022) and the close was up 1,783.17 points (cna#1627904) — two figures each attributed to its own source, with no difference computed by this card. One further point of care: CNA's 09:20 story of 2026-07-21 puts the quarterly moving average at 43,696 points (cna#1626225) while the same agency's 14:35 story puts it at 43,709 points (cna#1628181). Two stories from the same agency on the same day record different levels for that line, neither original explains the discrepancy, and this card reproduces both without adjudicating (see §Caveats).

F-002: The record's basis — CNA states the session "rewrote the second-largest single-day intraday point gain and the largest closing-basis point gain on record," while cnyes calls it "the largest point gain in history" without distinguishing the two
CNA's 2026-07-21 14:35 story: with TSMC regaining its quarterly moving average at the open, electronics heavyweights rebounded strongly, the index opened higher and worked higher, and it finished up 1,783.17 points, rewriting the second-largest single-day intraday point gain and the largest closing-basis point gain on record, closing at 44,232.87 and breaking through resistance at the 43,709 quarterly moving average, with turnover declining to NT$835.624 billion (8,356.24億); TSMC regained its own quarterly moving average at NT$2,333 that session (cna#1628181). CNA's 13:54 story phrases it as "set a record for the largest closing-basis point gain" (cna#1627908) and its 17:59 story as "set a record for the largest closing-basis point gain" (cna#1631368); cnyes at 14:13 wrote that the index "gained 1,783.17 points, the largest point gain in history, clearing both the 43,000 and 44,000 thresholds in one move, closing at its high of 44,232.87 and regaining the 5-day and quarterly moving averages" (cnyes#1628230). All four wordings are reproduced side by side; this card does not adjudicate which is correct and only notes that CNA's basis is the finer one.
Clean citable sentence: CNA states that on 2026-07-21 Taiwan's TAIEX "rewrote the second-largest single-day intraday point gain and the largest closing-basis point gain on record" — largest on a closing basis, second-largest on an intraday basis — while the cnyes story that day called it "the largest point gain in history" without distinguishing the two bases.

F-003: Heavyweights name by name — TSMC +NT$90 to NT$2,410, MediaTek limit-up +NT$330 to NT$3,670, Hon Hai +NT$11.5 to NT$246, Delta +NT$130 to NT$1,835, UMC +NT$4.5 to NT$134.5; electronics index +4.81%, financials +0.85%, TPEx +3.64%
CNA's 2026-07-21 13:54 story (reporter Ho Hsiu-ling): led by electronics heavyweights including TSMC and MediaTek, the market opened higher and worked higher; late in the session TSMC was lifted by a block of nearly 8,000 lots, and the index closed at its high of 44,232.87. At the close, TSMC rose NT$90 to NT$2,410; MediaTek hit limit-up, rising NT$330 to NT$3,670; Hon Hai rose NT$11.5 to NT$246; Delta Electronics rose NT$130 to NT$1,835; and UMC, which had been limit-down the prior session, rebounded NT$4.5 to NT$134.5. The electronics sector index rose 4.81%, the financial sector index 0.85% and the over-the-counter (TPEx) index 3.64% (cna#1627908). The cnyes story that day records TSMC as lifted by 7,974 lots of buy orders late in the session, closing up NT$90 or 3.88% at NT$2,410, with Delta up 7% and ASE Technology Holding up 6% (cnyes#1628230).
Clean citable sentence: On 2026-07-21 TSMC rose NT$90 to NT$2,410 and MediaTek hit limit-up with a NT$330 gain to NT$3,670, while the electronics sector index rose 4.81% and the financial sector index 0.85%.

F-004: A three-way divergence in flows — foreign investors net sellers for a 13th straight session, domestic investment trusts net buyers of NT$17.232 billion (172.32億), the Taiwan dollar closing at 32.345 down 9.7 cents at a fifteen-month low, and FX turnover of US$4.353 billion the sixth-largest on record
CNA's 2026-07-21 17:59 story (reporter Pan Tzu-yu): Taiwan stocks surged 1,783.17 points and set a record for the largest closing-basis point gain, yet foreign outflows continued, decoupling the Taiwan dollar from the equity market. The Taiwan dollar opened at 32.22 per US dollar, weakened steadily, broke back below 32.4, touched a low of 32.442, and closed at 32.345 after central bank smoothing late in the session — down 9.7 cents and the weakest in about one year and three months. Foreign investors have now been net sellers of Taiwan stocks for 13 consecutive sessions, and combined turnover on the Taipei and Cosmos foreign-exchange markets reached US$4.353 billion that day, the sixth-largest on record, with all of the top ten readings above US$4 billion and seven of them set in 2026 (cna#1631368). Institutional flows the same session: foreign and mainland Chinese investors net sellers of NT$4.332 billion (43.32億), proprietary dealers net buyers of NT$3.507 billion (35.07億) and domestic investment trusts net buyers of NT$17.232 billion (172.32億), for combined net buying of NT$16.407 billion (164.07億) (cna#1628355); the cnyes story that day words it as "foreign investors net sellers of NT$4.331 billion (43.31億)," with dealers +NT$3.507 billion (35.07億), trusts +NT$17.232 billion (172.32億) and a combined +NT$16.407 billion (164.07億) (cnyes#1630738). In futures: the August TAIEX futures contract closed at 44,377, up 1,715 points on volume of 60,847 contracts, a premium of 144.13 points to spot; the September contract closed at 44,597, up 1,729 points on volume of 350 contracts (cna#1628046).
Clean citable sentence: On the same 2026-07-21 session that set a record closing-basis point gain, foreign investors were net sellers of Taiwan stocks for a 13th consecutive session and the Taiwan dollar closed at 32.345 per US dollar, down 9.7 cents and its weakest in about one year and three months.

F-005: Where the limit-up list landed — AIDC NT$71.5 (up NT$6.5, 10.00%), Unimicron NT$825 (up NT$75), Jentech NT$3,520 (up NT$320), Chunghwa Precision NT$6,655 (up NT$605); AIDC also entered the ten most-traded names on 92,633 lots
Storm Media's post-close flash of 2026-07-21 at 14:21 tabulates the session's limit-up names: AIDC (2634) NT$71.5, up NT$6.5, +10.00%; Unimicron (3037) NT$825, up NT$75, +10.00%; Jentech (3653) NT$3,520, up NT$320, +10.00%; Taiwan Tsung (4169) NT$280.5, up NT$25.5; ADLINK (6166) NT$132, up NT$12; Ennoconn (6414) NT$445.5, up NT$40.5; Chunghwa Precision (6515) NT$6,655, up NT$605; AP Memory (6531) NT$858, up NT$78; Avalue (3479) NT$148.5, up NT$13.5; Falcon Machine Tools (4513) NT$21.45, up NT$1.95. The same article's "ten most-traded stocks" column lists, in order, Innolux (NT$50.7, 316,706 lots), UMC (NT$134.5, 259,516 lots), AUO (NT$25.6, 154,571 lots), Powerchip (NT$65.1, 126,208 lots), Nan Ya Plastics (NT$195.5, 121,882 lots), Winbond (NT$155.5, 104,120 lots), Yageo (NT$670, 94,729 lots), AIDC (NT$71.5, 92,633 lots), Taishin Shinkong Financial (NT$34.7, 81,876 lots) and ChipMOS (NT$104, 76,354 lots) — of which the only name to close lower was Taishin Shinkong Financial (down NT$0.45, −1.28%) (storm#1628297). CNA's story the same day fills in the sector landing points: substrate makers Unimicron and Kinsus hit limit-up and Nan Ya PCB rose 7.69%; bellwethers EMC and Taiflex both hit limit-up, closing at NT$4,830 and NT$1,235; in CPO, Chunghwa Precision, Sigurd, GlobalWafers-linked Envision-KY, IET-KY and Luxnet all hit limit-up; in passive components, Holy Stone hit limit-up intraday and closed up NT$61 at NT$682, Yageo rebounded 6.35% and Walsin Lihwa-linked Hua Jung hit limit-up at NT$60.3 (cna#1628181). On the defence side, CNA reports AIDC hit limit-up at NT$71.5 on heavy volume and led limit-up moves in Bao-Yi, Sheng-Tian, Solteam, Air Asia Company, Corvalent and Lungteh Shipbuilding; AIDC stated it had already booked NT$12.8 billion (128億) of new orders in the first half of 2026, with aero-engine demand strongest, and that its 2026 military target is to complete delivery of all 66 Brave Eagle advanced jet trainers under the programme (cna#1628184). cnyes at 10:49 records the session high of NT$71.5 as matching AIDC's all-time high price (cnyes#1626902).
Clean citable sentence: The limit-up names tabulated by Storm Media on 2026-07-21 clustered in aerospace and defence (AIDC at NT$71.5), ABF substrates (Unimicron at NT$825), thermal solutions (Jentech at NT$3,520) and test interfaces (Chunghwa Precision at NT$6,655), with AIDC also entering the session's ten most-traded names on 92,633 lots.

F-006: Preceding chain — on 2026-07-17 the TAIEX plunged 2,953.71 points, described by CNA as a record largest single-day point drop, closing at 42,671.27, with the week down 2,683.34 points (5.92%); TWSE statistics put foreign net selling that week at NT$309.517 billion (3,095.17億), a fourth consecutive weekly net sale
CNA's 2026-07-20 17:30 story (reporter Tseng Jen-kai): Taiwan stocks plunged 2,953.71 points on 2026-07-17, setting a record for the largest single-day point drop in history; the centralized market index closed that session at 42,671.27, the week was down 2,683.34 points or 5.92%, and the index broke below its quarterly moving average. According to Taiwan Stock Exchange statistics, foreign investors were net sellers of NT$309.517 billion (3,095.17億) that week, a fourth consecutive week of net selling. The top three foreign net sales that week were AUO at 182,372 lots, Nan Ya Plastics at 156,268 lots and TSMC at 66,287 lots; the top three net purchases were EVA Airways at 152,009 lots, CTBC Financial at 96,960 lots and E.Sun Financial at 69,760 lots. From the start of 2026 through 2026-07-17, cumulative foreign net selling reached NT$1.5605 trillion (1兆5605億), and foreign holdings totalled NT$67.1602 trillion (67兆1602億), or 48.22% of the market value of all listed shares (cna#1616563). The cnyes intraday story of 2026-07-17 at 13:18 adds that the index fell as much as 2,801.32 points intraday that session, a record largest intraday point drop, reaching 42,823.66, and that this exceeded the 2,694.08 points recorded on 2026-06-08 (cnyes#1571074). The prior session: CNA's 2026-07-20 13:51 story records the index closing at 42,449.70, down 221.57 points or 0.52%, on turnover of NT$983.863 billion (9,838.63億), with TSMC up NT$30 at NT$2,320 and UMC sold down to limit-down at NT$130 intraday (cna#1613772); the three institutional groups were combined net buyers of NT$500 million (5億) that session, within which foreign and mainland Chinese investors were net sellers of NT$6.084 billion (60.84億), a 12th consecutive session of net selling (cna#1616848).
Clean citable sentence: The record closing-basis point gain of 2026-07-21 came two sessions after 2026-07-17, when Taiwan stocks set what CNA describes as a record largest single-day point drop, falling 2,953.71 points to close at 42,671.27.

J-001: Whole-card basis statement — every index level, percentage move, share price, turnover figure, institutional flow, FX rate, futures quote and market-capitalisation figure in this card is as stated in media-side post-close or intraday compilations by CNA, cnyes and Storm Media (including CNA's citation of Taiwan Stock Exchange statistics); official_count_verified = 0 and there are zero verified official anchors. This site has not independently verified any of it with the Taiwan Stock Exchange, the Taiwan Futures Exchange, the central bank or the companies. Any citation of a figure from this card must carry the basis "media compilation, not verified by this site, not an official release," and must not be treated as official endorsement

J-002: Cross-source notation differences are reproduced, not adjudicated — (1) record wording: CNA's "largest closing-basis point gain / second-largest single-day intraday point gain" versus cnyes's "largest point gain in history"; (2) foreign net selling: CNA's "foreign and mainland Chinese investors net sellers of NT$4.332 billion (43.32億)" versus cnyes's "foreign investors net sellers of NT$4.331 billion (43.31億)"; (3) the late block in TSMC: CNA's "nearly 8,000 lots" versus cnyes's "7,974 lots"; (4) the quarterly moving average: CNA's 09:20 story at 43,696 versus the same agency's 14:35 story at 43,709; (5) MediaTek's classification: Storm Media's "near limit-up" (9.88%) versus CNA's and cnyes's "limit-up" (share price NT$3,670 and the NT$330 change agree across all three). All such differences are reproduced side by side, and this card neither merges, converts nor adjudicates them
- confidence: high

J-003: Editorial-inference marker (Fang Shih) — "price up, volume down, currency down as a three-way divergence," "among the three institutional groups only domestic investment trusts and proprietary dealers were net buyers while foreign and mainland Chinese investors remained net sellers" (a statement of net-flow direction only, with no inference about what drove the session's advance), "the limit-up list clustered in sectors that had fallen hardest" and "within the same sector Yageo rebounded while Walsin Technology, under trading curbs, closed lower" are all editorial observations by Fang Shih from placing already-cited figures side by side, and are not sentences from any CNA, cnyes or Storm Media original. None of the originals ties the disposition measure, the draft drone statutes under review, or the TSMC 2027 pricing report to any single stock's move as cause and effect; this card places facts side by side without attributing and computes no ratios
- confidence: high
- basis: news_aggregation
J-004: Chronology discipline marker — CNA's 2026-07-21 17:07 story, citing Nikkei Asia and multiple sources, reports that TSMC plans to raise prices for both advanced-node and mature-node chip manufacturing services in 2027 by as much as 10%, and the same story states that "Reuters could not immediately confirm the report" (cna#1631206). That story was filed at 17:07 Taipei time, after the 13:30 close of the Taiwan session, and rests on sourcing not confirmed by a second wire service — it must not be used to explain intraday gains that occurred before 13:30, and this card places it only as same-day context

P-Units
P-001: CNA refers to a "second-largest single-day intraday point gain," yet none of the four same-day stories states the value or date of the largest intraday point gain on record; that record table can only be checked against Taiwan Stock Exchange historical statistics — not checked by this card, marked open
P-002: Yageo (國巨*) filed that it has been invited to an online investor conference hosted by Morgan Stanley Securities at 16:00 on 2026-07-29 (ROC year 115/07/29) to present its results for the second quarter of 2026 (ROC 115 Q2) (twse#1628481); Unimicron (欣興) filed that its second-quarter 2026 financial report is scheduled to be submitted to its board on 2026-07-28 (ROC 115/07/28) (twse#1625580). Both are names on this card's limit-up or rebound lists, and whether their actual second-quarter numbers support the session's valuation repair remains to be tracked through company filings and follow-up reporting (open)
P-003: Walsin Technology (2492) is under a disposition window from 2026-07-16 through August 3 with matching every 20 minutes (storm#1616790); its volume and price behaviour after the window ends, and whether the passive-component sector's 2026-07-21 rebound persists, remain to be tracked through subsequent post-close reporting (open)
P-004: Whether margin deleveraging has run its course: the cnyes story of 2026-07-20, citing Bloomberg-compiled data, records that margin balances fell by nearly NT$27.6 billion (276億, about US$896 million) in a single day on 2026-07-17, the largest one-day drop since April 2025, and that as of that point margin balances were 7% below their record high at US$18.2 billion (cnyes#1613292). The original does not state the margin balance for the 2026-07-21 session and this card does not estimate it — to be tracked through subsequent statistics (open)
§Caveats (source limitations, consolidated once)
- Official anchors: official_count_verified = 0. This card has zero verified official anchors. Storm Media's post-close flash, CNA's post-close stories and the cnyes post-close report are all media-side compilations, not releases by the Taiwan Stock Exchange, the Taiwan Futures Exchange or the central bank; CNA's 2026-07-20 weekly foreign-flow figures are that agency citing exchange statistics. This site has not independently verified any of it with any of those authorities, and every F-Unit carries basis = news_aggregation.
- Time basis / comparison basis: the body of this card covers the single session of 2026-07-21, and every "gain / decline / percentage move" is versus the prior session close of 2026-07-20. The 2,953.71-point drop of 2026-07-17 is versus that session's own prior close, and the weekly figure of 2,683.34 points (5.92%) is versus the prior week. "13 consecutive sessions" of foreign net selling is counted through 2026-07-21 and "a fourth consecutive week" through 2026-07-17. The NT$1.5605 trillion (1兆5605億) of cumulative foreign net selling from the start of 2026 through 2026-07-17 is a cumulative figure, not a single-session one.
- Distinct bases: (1) the "largest closing-basis point gain" and the "second-largest single-day intraday point gain" are two different records (cna#1628181) and any citation must say which; (2) CNA's five-most-traded list includes ETFs and leveraged products (Capital TAIEX Leveraged 2X, UPAMC Upgrade 50 Active, Yuanta Taiwan 50 Leveraged 2X) while Storm Media's ten-most-traded list shows no such products, so the two lists rest on different bases and cannot be inferred from one another; (3) the ex-financials index at 39,701.27 excludes the financial sector and is a different basis from the headline index; (4) the Taiwan dollar's 9.7-cent decline is against the US dollar and has no unit comparability with index points; (5) margin balances of NT$27.6 billion (276億) and US$18.2 billion are two figures in different currencies at different points in time (cnyes#1613292), and this card neither converts nor compares them.
- Notation differences reproduced: the record wording, the final digit of foreign net selling (NT$4.332 billion / NT$4.331 billion), the size of the late block in TSMC (nearly 8,000 lots / 7,974 lots), the level of the quarterly moving average (43,696 / 43,709) and MediaTek's classification (near limit-up / limit-up) are reproduced side by side and not adjudicated (see J-002).
- Figures examined and rejected: this site also saw an investment-advisory contributed column the same day (cnyes#1631247, 2026-07-21 17:46) stating turnover "shrank to NT$836.9 billion (8,369億)," which does not match CNA's NT$835.624 billion (8,356.24億) or the cnyes post-close story's NT$835.6 billion (8,356億). The same column further states that margin balances "fell by about NT$68.5 billion (685億) over two sessions" without identifying a statistical source, and it carries solicitation contact details at the end. This card does not use any figure from that column; the fact that it was examined and excluded is disclosed here so that downstream citers can identify it.
- Company self-statement: AIDC's "NT$12.8 billion (128億) of new orders booked in the first half of 2026" and "2026 military target of completing delivery of all 66 Brave Eagle advanced jet trainers under the programme" are the company's own statement of order value and annual target (cna#1628184), not a verified filing figure and not a completed delivery count.
- Unconfirmed wire report: TSMC's 2027 price increase "of as much as 10%" is a Nikkei Asia report citing sources, and the original states that "Reuters could not immediately confirm the report" (cna#1631206); it is not confirmed by a second wire service and was filed after the close (see J-004).
- Search scope actually run: this card ran a live `asql` full-database search over country=TW items from 2026-07-13 onward on keywords covering the Taiwan headline index, foreign investors, margin financing, AIDC and defence, Unimicron and substrates, Yageo and passive components, CPO and TSMC, and a `wsql` search of published cards in tqaeo.ank_docs. It ultimately uses 26 articles from distinct sources (1 trigger plus 25 added) and three cross-card links to published ANK cards, and it additionally examined and excluded one further article (cnyes#1631247, for the reason given above).
- Rounding: the body uses each original's exact values throughout. The 4.20% in the headline is the percentage move as stated in the CNA original; this card computes no percentage move of its own. NT$ amounts are given in billions or trillions with the original East Asian myriad notation in parentheses; no conversion beyond that notation is performed.

This card is a single-session node two weeks further along the same index timeline — 2026-07-17 closing at 42,671.27, 2026-07-20 at 42,449.70 and 2026-07-21 at 44,232.87 (each attributed to its own source and dated; figures from the two cards are never merged and no difference is computed).

The preceding chain in this card is the other end of that same risk — the cnyes story of 2026-07-20, citing Bloomberg-compiled data, records margin balances falling by nearly NT$27.6 billion in a single day on 2026-07-17 (cnyes#1613292). This card pins that structural backdrop to a specific single-session name and order book — AIDC closed limit-up at NT$71.5 on 2026-07-21, and by its own statement booked NT$12.8 billion of new orders in the first half of 2026, with a 2026 military target of completing delivery of all 66 Brave Eagle advanced jet trainers under the programme (cna#1628184), while the Legislative Yuan reviewed competing draft drone statutes in joint session (cna#1628184). Each card states its own sources and time points; nothing is merged or computed.
FAQ
Q: How much did Taiwan stocks actually gain on July 21, 2026, and is "the biggest point gain ever" accurate?
Per CNA's post-close statistics, the TAIEX weighted index closed at 44,232.87 points, up 1,783.17 points or 4.20% versus the prior session, on turnover of NT$835.624 billion (8,356.24億) (cna#1627904). As for "biggest ever" — CNA states explicitly that the session "rewrote the second-largest single-day intraday point gain and the largest closing-basis point gain on record" (cna#1628181), meaning largest on a closing basis and only second-largest on an intraday basis, while the cnyes story that day wrote "the largest point gain in history" without distinguishing the two (cnyes#1628230). Any citation must specify that this is a closing-basis point-gain record.
None of the four same-day stories states the value or date of the largest intraday point gain on record (see P-001). All figures are as stated in media compilations and have not been verified with the Taiwan Stock Exchange by this site (see §Caveats).
Q: Did foreign investors come back as buyers that day?
No. CNA reports the three institutional groups as combined net buyers of NT$16.407 billion (164.07億) that session, broken down as proprietary dealers +NT$3.507 billion (35.07億), domestic investment trusts +NT$17.232 billion (172.32億), and foreign and mainland Chinese investors −NT$4.332 billion (43.32億) (cna#1628355); CNA's FX story adds that foreign investors "have now sold Taiwan stocks net for 13 consecutive sessions" (cna#1631368). The cnyes wording is "foreign investors net sellers of NT$4.331 billion (43.31億)" (cnyes#1630738), differing from CNA in both counterparty label and final digit, and this card reproduces both without merging.
The same session the Taiwan dollar closed at 32.345 per US dollar, down 9.7 cents and its weakest in about one year and three months, while combined Taipei and Cosmos FX-market turnover of US$4.353 billion was the sixth-largest on record (cna#1631368). The index record and the currency low fell on the same day (see §Caveats).
Q: What does the volume-price divergence mean, and what was turnover?
CNA records turnover on 2026-07-21 at NT$835.624 billion (8,356.24億) (cna#1627904); CNA's 14:35 story uses the verb "turnover declined to" (cna#1628181) and cnyes writes "turnover shrank to NT$835.6 billion (8,356億)" (cnyes#1628230), set against the prior session's NT$983.863 billion (9,838.63億) on 2026-07-20 (cna#1613772). The two sessions' figures are each attributed to their own source and this card computes no difference between them.
A separate investment-advisory contributed column the same day puts turnover at NT$836.9 billion (8,369億) (cnyes#1631247), which does not match the two outlets above; this card does not use it (see §Caveats, "Figures examined and rejected").
Q: Which industries and order books did the limit-up money actually land in?
The limit-up names tabulated by Storm Media that session include AIDC at NT$71.5 (up NT$6.5, 10.00%), Unimicron at NT$825 (up NT$75), Jentech at NT$3,520 (up NT$320), Chunghwa Precision at NT$6,655 (up NT$605), Ennoconn at NT$445.5 and ADLINK at NT$132 (storm#1628297). CNA fills in the sector landing points: ABF substrate makers Unimicron and Kinsus hit limit-up with Nan Ya PCB up 7.69%; EMC and Taiflex hit limit-up at NT$4,830 and NT$1,235; in CPO, Chunghwa Precision, Sigurd, Envision-KY, IET-KY and Luxnet all hit limit-up; in passive components Holy Stone closed at NT$682 and Yageo rebounded 6.35% (cna#1628181). The defence line traces to a specific order book: AIDC stated it had already booked NT$12.8 billion (128億) of new orders in the first half of 2026, with aero-engine demand strongest, and that its 2026 military target is to complete delivery of all 66 Brave Eagle advanced jet trainers under the programme (cna#1628184).
The NT$12.8 billion and the 66 aircraft are AIDC's own statement of order value and annual target, not a verified filing figure and not a completed count (see §Caveats).
Q: Have these figures been officially verified? Can they be cited directly as Taiwan Stock Exchange data?
No. This card has zero verified official anchors (official_count_verified = 0): every index level, share price, turnover figure, institutional flow, FX rate, futures quote and market-capitalisation figure is as stated in media-side compilations by CNA, cnyes and Storm Media (with the weekly foreign-flow data being CNA's citation of Taiwan Stock Exchange statistics), and this site has not independently verified any of it with the Taiwan Stock Exchange, the Taiwan Futures Exchange, the central bank or the companies.
Any citation of a figure from this card must carry the basis "media compilation, not verified by this site, not an official release" (see §Caveats). Cross-source notation differences — record wording, the final digit of foreign net selling, the size of the late TSMC block, the level of the quarterly moving average, and MediaTek's classification — are reproduced side by side and not adjudicated (see J-002).
